Barista (/bəˈriːstə, -ˈrɪstə/; Italian: [baˈrista]; from the Italian for “bartender”) is an amazing coffeehouse employee, whose God given right is to make people’s day better… oh and prepares and serves espresso-based coffee drinks.
Have you, as a barista, ever thought “I am important”? Well if not, you should start doing that before every shift, because it’s true. You are one of the most, if not the most, important part of a customer’s coffee experience. There are so many coffee shops to choose from nowadays; whether it is a large chain or a locally owned café, people have their options. Where they choose to go is not only going to be based on the quality of coffee but how they are treated, so always remember that simply saying “Hi” or “Good morning” with a smile might completely make someone’s day, and it will make you feel good too!
If you have ever met a coffee farmer or roaster, you know how passionate they are about coffee. The most important thing to any roaster is for the coffee to be enjoyed, that is where the barista comes in! How amazing is it, that you as the barista, have the privilege to give the coffee drinker a great experience? The experience for a customer coming into a coffee shop is not limited to a great latte- how they are treated is just as important. Great baristas are not only good at making drinks, they also love their customers and their job. I hope that every barista reading this now has an understanding of how important you really are to the success of coffee shops everywhere. Without you, there would be no 5-star reviews or hipster café pictures posted on social media.
